JOIN THE SLP Executive!

2019- 2020 Executive positions

 

All U of T staff are eligible to join the SLP Executive team, with acknowledgement from their division and/or manager to fulfill the following responsibilities: 

  • Attend monthly executive meetings 

  • Work together with their portfolio group(s) to develop and execute programming (see portfolios below for specifics on number of hours) 

  • Demonstrate support for their colleagues by attending and participating in SLP programming to the extent that their schedules allow 

 

Co-Chair, 1 vacancy (2-year position) 

Average of 8-10 hours per month

The co-chairs are responsible for overall direction of the SLP: 

  • Working with executive members to identify yearly goals and objectives; 

  • Working with the executive to create and plan tri-campus events each semester on topics of community interest; 

  • Connect regularly with and support committees throughout the year 

In order to provide continuity to the executive, co-chairs serve overlapping, two-year terms. Each spring, as the outgoing co-chair vacates their position, a new chair is elected from the executive to serve as the new co-chair in the upcoming academic year. 

Committee Chair, 5 vacancies (1-year positions) 

Average of 3-4 hours per month

Committee Chairs are members of the SLP executive team.  There will be 1 chair per committee.  Committee themes are:   

  • Self Care & Wellbeing: Focus on generating opportunities for staff to incorporate professional resiliency and self-care strategies into their practice 

  • Connection: Creating a sense of belonging and community for those involved in SLP programming, including initiatives like mentorship 

  • Innovation: Exploring strategies and new ideas on how SLP can grow and thrive for future student services practitioners 

  • Education: Developing events, workshops and retreats for SLP members based on emerging issues and trends in higher education 

  • Communications: Sharing and updating information on SLP events and initiatives with members via list-serv, Twitter & website 
     

  • Committee Chairs provide the general direction and lead a committee of volunteers to host one event per semester 

  • Chairs are responsible for working with committee members to identify yearly goals and objectives 

  • Chairs organize and facilitate at least one meeting every two months or more depending on the committee’s goals for the term 

Committee Members, 15-20 vacancies (1-year positions) 

Average of 2 hours per month 

Committee Members support their individual team’s goals and objectives under the guidance of the Chairs. 
 

  • Committee Members support the planning, logistics, and assessment of events, with one event per semester 

  • Members are responsible for working with their Chairs and fellow Committee Members to identify yearly goals and objectives 

  • Members attend at least one meeting every two months or more, depending on the committee’s goals for the term 

  

Secretary and Treasurer, 1 vacancy (1-year position) 

Average of 2-3 hours per month 

The SLP Secretary and Treasurer provides financial and administrative support to the community of practice. Key responsibilities include:   

  • Developing the budget in collaboration with the Co-Chairs and Committee Chairs 

  • Monitoring the budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations 

  • Ensuring all invoices are processed in a timely manner 

  • Coordinating SLP Executive team meetings and maintaining meeting minutes  

 

Registrar Office/Academic Faculty Liaison, 1 vacancy (1-year position

Average of 1-2 hours per month 

The Registrar Office/Academic Faculty Staff Liaison position provides the SLP executive with guidance on strategy and internal collaborations across the university.  Key responsibilities include: 

  • Working with executive members to identify yearly goals and objectives; 

  • Working with the executive to create and plan tri-campus events each semester on topics of community interest; 

  • Represent and advocate for the professional development needs of academic/registrarial staff
